I'm enjoying Lost Valley a lot!
To me, fights are great, of course it depends on your game settings, but with default settings, that's actually what I like, some fights are very challenging, but this also leads to epic and memorable fights. I recently got 2 of those, situation was pretty bad (I mean _really_ bad, like 3/4 characters down and no cleric up, or like being totally outnumbered). With strategy, and a dose of good luck, I unexpectedly won those...

Though regarding this I noticed an issue. In Lost Valley I tried to clear an outpost with this tactic, it worked well, and yes it feels weird to be able to do so, and that's not very fun. But it didn't trigger any combat, and since there was a quest related to this, the quest didn't trigger either. But the main issue to me: it didn't trigger a fight at all, and IMHO it should....
