Magic that requires somatic component should roll at disadvantage when in medium or heavy armor.
I honestly don't understand this train of thought. I mean, very early editions of ADnD didn't have a restriction of a mage in armor and then soon after you couldn't wear armor and cast wizard spells flat out. 3rd you had what is mentioned above in a sliding scale of spell failure chance, never played 4th but the 5th removed all penalties so long as you had proficiency and it's like every day I hear...

Equipment Proficiencies Should Not be Granted From Backgrounds
If Multiclassing were available I might agree with you. It isn't, so I'm taking the upgraded backgrounds for what they are, the ability to kind of multiclass without dealing with multiclassing. Does this give a pretty major advantage to the classes that were designed to not have access to the abilities in question? Yes. Do I really care? no. Patch Notes For January "Big Fixes" Beta Patch
Eh, don't know about patch notes, but the beta of it over on steam has a few rough spots. right now the crossbows are manifesting on model in the middle of the character. Spell Foci are going to be a thing with bracer, amulet, and belt variations to be introduced. looks like they're going to return to 100 dg per identify via pearls (i don't mind this over all, but I'd like some kind of...

More long rest areas OR allowing long rest anywhere
Disagree. Long rest areas are already quite plentiful. You are supposed to conserve your spell slots for fights that need them - there cannot be any difficulty at all if your squad fully refreshed before and after every battle. Use short rests, make balanced parties that don't require spell slots to kill easy fights, etc. Short rests also help heal and in the case of wizards, replenish a spell slot. Honestly, I want long rests...
