College of Tradition needs buffs. At-will Mage Armor is just Studded Leather +1, which they can wear anyway, and with real armor you don't you have to waste a turn casting it during travel encounters. Even level 3 abilities should remain useful through level 12, and this one doesn't. A boost to insight and intimidate checks is, well, dialogue, so who cares. Even if you do care, you're screwed, because Solasta doesn't let you choose...

College of Tradition bards getting Mage Armor is totally useless to them
it is coupled with the ability to treat any roll of 9 or lower on Insight and Intimidation checks as a 10, which is considerably powerful in terms of its statistical effect. That's a non-combat effect. It helps you succeed at a handful of dialogue checks, some of which are just for flavor and make no difference in the outcome of the conversation. Usually it helps you avoid combat, which is kind of a letdown...
