Major Gate (misc. bugs)
I noticed this very same thing. Also, I noticed if i go to use the gate, i can apparently jump to places I'm not sure I should be able to get to yet, like Coperann. For fun, I went to Coperann, and laughed as the party had a conversation about people they'd never met, and was trapped forever in the room since the doors say "you must finish the quest objective before opening the doors..."
