Wake up action on sleeping party members

I find it annoying there is no method to wake up party members. Perhaps they have to pass a check to hear noise and wake up. Maybe there can be a action to kick them awake.

My sleepy rogue snores away like its their job. I get having them sleep for a short time but it can drag fights on a long time because nappy pants does hear a orc slamming his axe into my shield above their head.

You can click on them it gives the gear symbol and lets you wake them up using a whole action (I think - feels like it should be your interact with environment) . They are also awakened by damage, if you have a low damage AOE :)

As with pretty much everything in the game at the mo it could do with a fair bit more information

I didn't catch that there was an option to do that. Thanks for the information. I am not sure how I missed that but maybe others have too. My rogue will not be pleased about getting woke up.

Would be nice if there was a 'Yell and wake everyone up at once' option too, rather than having to spend and entire action shaking someone awake - with the except for magical sleep of course, that should still be a 'you need to shake them awake' situation.

Any adventurer that cant wake up when someone is yelling from 5 feet away should not be leaving the safety of town....

My favorite was during one combat my fighter did a shove and knocked an orc prone ONTO one of the sleeping characters, and they just kept snoring away. I'd think every round there should be an increasing chance for them to wake up on their own. Combat isn't quiet, and adventurers aren't generally known to be incredibly deep sleepers.

If you are talking about magically induced Sleep (as if from the Sleep spell), there is the specific requirement to use an Action to wake them up without causing damage.  This is part of the balance of the spell slot consumed to cast the spell.

Nope just regular sleep. I have also cast several Thunderwave spells without disturbing my sleeping beauties.

We can wake our companions one at a time but I wish I could buy something like a ship bell - while in inventory the bell on the pole object will spawn next to the campfire and will wake up all sleeping characters in a certain radius when used.

Thunderwave is supposed to make a loud noise, but there's no official rule about what DC you'd need to roll against to wake up. Damaging somebody or using an action to wake them are the two unambiguous rules.

It would be nice to have a couple of options.

-1 action cantrip to wake the rest of the party up.

-1 action to wake up 2 PCs next to you (with choice if you need to).

-some type of magical item (3.5 had banners) that could sound a warning bell to wake the rest of the party up.

-the Alert style feat does prevent you from being surprised (not sure what it does for a sleeping character), but a couple of feats with the "surprised but awake" as one of the bonuses could be a good way to go.

It might have to be included as a DLC  given the effort of creation and balancing though.

I don't know what adventurers would rest in dangerous lands without setting up a watch.

My wizard was surprised awake, so lost the first turn, then lost his second turn to manually wake up someone else, then that other person lost their turn to wake up the fourth person. The current implementation isn't impossibly difficult or anything, but Tactical Waking Action is more of a time-waster than something exciting.

My suggestion: Yelling to wake up the entire party would fit as a special bonus action available upon being ambushed. It's something sensible, short, and simple you could easily do along with doing something else, and the party members which wake up would still be prone and possibly also surprised. They all sleep so close together that a good yell shouldn't even need a perception roll.

This would not have any effect on magical sleep effects, which would remain a standard action.

Would be nice to have tip when clicking on sleeping party member to wake up him/her.

Bump...  With the Winter patch, there's still no obvious way to wake sleeping companions.  I wound up casting Thunderwave ON my party in order to wake them up.  Killed one of them, but at least the others got up and fed him a potion before he failed his death saving throws.

I didn't notice any gear icon or anything... so if there is a "wake companion" action, it needs to be more obvious.  And yeah... having Thunderwave cast beside you (even if not on you) and sleeping through it seems a bit... odd.

Whatever character is awake, is able to click on sleeping characters to wake them - it does use an action though, so no attack.

Nuance / correction :

  • On round 1, my Surprised character could not wake the others ;
  • On round 2, my other auto-awoken character did have the Bell icon and awoke another.

Therefore, it is still there, but not always for some reason and the icon is subtle / not easy to see.

On round 1, character was surprised - surprised characters cannot take any action.

Round two is the first round where a surprised character can act, ergo the first round where he can wake someone else.
