Temple of Lost God Puzzle not working

Version 1.0.18
I'm at the temple of the lost God, and doing the puzzle there. I'm trying the obvious solution of standing on the buttons in the pattern displayed on the wall, but nothing is happening. Googling says the symbols should be lighting up, but nothing is happening. I tried every combination, left to right, right to left, nothing is happening.

*spoilers*

It does work but its's kind of weird.  Reading the book you get from the wall helps.  Start with a small square using just the lower right four buttons (not the outside corners).  This will light up the square.  Then you have to leave those 4 people in place while the 5th person stands on a square for the next shape and then remove one of the original 4 people so that you light up the next shape.  Continue in this way placing the extra person first then moving one person out.

Thanks, I got it. Not sure if I got a book, or if I did I missed that I did. But yeah, what a horribly weirdly designed puzzle. Guess it does feel like a DnD puzzle designed by a normal DM, and not actual game developers.

Wow, what a terribly designed puzzle. I was finally able to get it thanks to this thread. The shapes also don't make sense based on the  grid and how the sizes of the shapes are in the book and on the wall. Some of them would indicate that you're on the outside pieces, but really there are no spaces in-between.

Once you understand how the puzzle works, than it's not that bad. They should really reconsider re-designing this puzzle slightly.

So I am at this puzzle, don't have the required book and can't leave the area to go back and get it? Genius puzzle. 110 hours and stuck because some idiot jr developers thinks they are cute.
great.

*SPOILER*

I kind of liked this puzzle, but I guess I sort of just trialled and errored it until I figured out that you have to form the shapes on the wall (in order), but you had to do so by 'morphing' the current shape in the sequence to the next shape and only by moving a single party member from their current switch to a new switch that will form the next shape.

The important thing to note is that you must move the 'right' party member from the switch to keep the lit sequence from resetting, but if you think about the next shape you must form from the current arrangement of party members, you can figure out the party member that must be taken off the switch and moved to a new position without resetting the lit patterns.  The final shape requires using a 5th Party member.

@Steve: I didn't realize you could do it using all 5 party members, so I guess either way will work (move 5th party member to new switch, then remove one of the party members to form a new shape, or just move the correct one of the 4 party members from their switch and move them to a switch that will allow them to form the next shape).

The puzzle in itself isn't that confusing, what is poorly represented is the second one, which isn't on the same scale as others.
