shillelagh uncastable?

Shillelagh requires you have a free hand for somatic components, a druidic focus, and can only target a club or staff that the druid is currently wielding. The druid's starting equipment only has a handheld druidic focus so as far as I can tell it is impossible for a starting druid to cast the spell. Is that intentional? Am I missing something obvious?

I noticed the Druid focus can be placed in an item slot like other foci and potions (Utility Slot), therefore it does not have to be in hand.

Follow-up :

I got it to work using two different methods ...

  1. Focus placed alone in weapon set 2 (one hand free) : cast the spell, but then I select the club/quarterstaff and shield in weapon set 1.  In combat though, this will use your one Item interaction per turn (which is fine if you start with one hand free).
  2. Focus placed in the Utility/potion slot (it is the last item slot) and one hand free : cast the spell and select the club/quarterstaff (optional shield) in the other weapon set.

Note : in Solasta, the quarterstaff can be used like a one-handed club, so always better to also have a wooden shield.

I was going to post about the implementation of this spell. It's not uncastable - you can cast it and switch weapon loadouts in one move, or not use a shield. However, That faffing about should not be necessary. In PnP the target staff/club is the material component for the spell, so RAW you do not need a druidic focus or free hand as well.

If the S and M component requirement where removed from this implementation it would function exactly like the PnP version.

Reminder that the Druid focus does NOT need to be in hand : it can be placed in the Utility slot (where potions go).

( At worst, the need for a focus can be removed in the settings, but that does not nullify the design debate or default user-friendly question of course.  Only saying it so the option is known.)

Completely not the issue - Solasta requites a free hand for S components. A hand is required to hold the target staff/club. Which means inventory flipping is required to use the 5e druid standard loadout of shillelagh and wooden shield.

In PnP, the target weapon is also the material component, and a hand that is holding the material component can perform S components, so you don't need a free hand to cast the spell.

Without a shield it's a really really bad option.

True that is not the issue.  Was only saying for those who place their Druid focus in hand.

I/we discuss the issue here though : https://forums.solasta-game.com/forum/druid-cant-hold-staff-and-shield-and-cast-spells#reply-11312
