Shadow of the Past Problem

My rogue character sneaks into the embassy and past the guards to the the room where I am supposed to place the document.  I find a book shelf that is highlighted with the left alt key.

Walking up to in and I left click on the shelf.  On the left side of the screen there is a message "place the document"  I've clicked the spot multiple times and there is a auditable sound like [paper rustling but I don't get credit for completeing that portion of the quest.

I've watched a few videos thinking there might me some other aspect that I needed to do but every vid just shows clicking on the shelf.
