Questions about level caps and transition to DLC

Hello fellow community,

I played this game (Main campaign) I think in September 2021. One Issue I had was that I bumped into the level cap (I think it was 10 back in the day) with still hours of gameplay and fights/encounters ahead of me. So I had to mod it back in the day to not feel unrewarded. Now I came back with all the new content compared to 2 years ago.

I'm playing the main campaign now and want to play the Palace of Ice DLC after that. Now my three questions:
1. What is the level cap within the main campaign I'm playing right now? What happens if I bump into it again? Same problem like 2 years ago?
2. Let's say the level cap is 12 (I don't know) - does this then seemlessly transition to the DLC starting at 12 and not 10? Or does it get rolled back?
3. Do I have to to something then? Are all my items and stuff "carried over"?

Thanks ahead friends and stay in the light!

level cap is 12

You will feel unrewarded.

You can start Palace at level 12, I read it. But I didn't play this campaign yet. I guess you will carry everything from your last saved game.

Technically, you could say you start 12+, because you can have XP above level 12.  I was about 12.6 and started Palace of Ice with all that XP and my gear.  I lost a crown though :P

Hi again,

thanks for the responses! Now 2 weeks later I played through the main campaign and also tried to do every side-quest. What happened in the end was that I reached Level 12 kind of before the last main quest. So good timing. Only thing I did in the last third of the game was hiding/avoiding travel encounters to not overlevel further more. Otherwise all played out perfectly.

I arrived within the dlc and had an instant level up to 13 so the gathered exp within last quest carried over. Maybe I missed some quests or a lof of travel encounters - or - it's actually way better paced and balanced then two years ago where I hit level 10 (max level back in the day) way, way before the last chapters.

So - good experience playing again overall :)

By the way, today's patch changed that so that imported characters that are level 12 do not have more experience than just enough to be level 12.
