Please separate hands for weapon groups

I posted this once before, but now that the game is actually released I think that this is worth revisiting:

Considering somatic components for spells, I think that it's important to be able to empty just one hand instead of having to switch both. For example, a cleric has a mace and shield. If they want to cast a somatic spell, they need to switch weapon groups. In the current implementation, if they want to keep a shield up, they have to have 2 shields equipped (one in each group(shield+mace and shield+unarmed)). Maybe this isn't a big issue, but what if you have a nice +2 shield? If you want to cast a spell you have to switch to your plain non magic backup shield just to have a hand free?

The best solution in my opinion is to have each hand have a weapon toggle. This way the cleric could keep the shield equipped in the left hand, but swap the mace for a free hand in the right hand. To be fair, doffing a shield shouldn't be a free action anyway and this could make it easier to implement the tabletop rules (just a side benefit, not quite as important).

Again, sorry to repost what I posted 5 months ago, but the game is in full release now and has a larger audience. I am wondering what others think about this.

Isn't the cleric supposed to be able to 'mark' his shield so he can cast while using it? Or is the tooltip wrong about this? I know it doesn't currently work in-game.

I'd like to set up some of my characters to have say a longsword wielded versatile, then the same longsword and a shield for when he gets focused.

The limitation in both scenarios I think is that you can't have an item equipped twice, although the in-game tips suggested that to me until I found it didn't work.

Exactly, this is another example where this would be useful. In your scenario you'd have to find 2 longswords and have 2 weapon groups (longsword 1/shield and longsword 2). Now you are carrying extra weight AND if you find a really good longsword you can only use it in one of the 2 groups. I LOVE THIS GAME, that's why I'm bringing this up. It's such a D&D masterpiece, this would just come one step closer to bringing it to true tabletop.

What you said could be a potential solution though. Instead of separating hands, at least allow us to equip an item in multiple weapon groups.

+1 for more weapon groups and letting weapons be shared across groups. My battle cleric has 2 different weapons she uses (based on opponent resistances) but had to accept a lesser AC for the “backup” weapon because she only has 1+2 shield. The 3rd weapon set they give us for a torch/candle is just a wasted item set to me, I always have dark vision characters and at least 1 character with the Light cantrip to light everyone’s weapons, and 1 character with Firebolt to light sconces,

I think that you can use your free inventory action to take off/put on the shield. Although if marking the shield is SUPPOSED to allow for spellcasting with the shield, maybe I'll just download the mod that allows it until it's fixed.
