Petition to increase party size

Adding my voice to the more is better chorus.  A wildcard would be nice and I really like running with two different types of casters -- one to blast and the other to buff.

Personally, I would prefer five members. But, failing that, then perhaps a roster of ten or eleven members with unique skill sets, that can be chosen and rotated in and out of an active 4 man mission squad. This is sort of like what Baldur's Gate 3 does. The player has NPC reserves waiting in the camp that can join whenever the player returns to camp; other NPC can be dismissed and sent back to camp at any time.

I think a good solution would be 4 party members (because honestly the game already sorta becomes a bit easy with 4) but a 5th slot for a hierling or companion of some kind. I think the game is setting this up, because I noticed that all the factions that are Sympathetic say "will join you in battle."

Dragon Age did this and it was pretty slick.

ok so the campaign is balanced for 4. doesnt mean the custom campaigns have to be so I think the option should be there to have 4-6 characters.

as noted, 4 means a very restrictive party setup in order to avoid gaps that make the game, not necessarily more difficult but less fun in my opinion.

I would like to see the dungeon builder provide a CR level for encounters so they can scale to meet the 4-6  range. doesnt have to be much, an extra HD on each minotaur, or an additional +1 to attack and damage for each goblin, or the goblin skirmishers are using poison arrows.

then module creators can say, "this module is balanced for 5 players characters" and its up to the play to decide if they want to get the experience as designed or if they want to make it more difficult (4 PCs) or easier (6 PCs) but with additional difficulty in the encounters. oh and the divided xp to make progression slightly slower as well of course.

for those using games as an example; Baldurs gate, 1 main + 5 companions = party size of 6 , NWN multiplayer = party size of 5 , D&D online: 3-5 is the recommended (max group size 6)

and for the rulebook fans:  from  the DM guide for 5e

The average D&D party size consists of five players. The 5e edition DM guide p. 83 states that 3-5 players is the ideal party size. Most Wizards of the Coast adventures are geared toward 4-5 players

from the basic rules on the WotC page: (page 166 just after the calculation of Xp section)

The preceding guidelines assume that you have a party consisting of three to five adventurers. If the party contains fewer than three characters, apply the next highest multiplier on the Encounter Multipliers table. For example, apply a multiplier of 1.5 when the characters fight a single monster, and a multiplier of 5 for groups of fifteen or more monsters. If the party contains six or more characters, use the next lowest multiplier on the table. Use a multiplier of 0.5 for a single monster.

and the Icewind Dale DM seasonal guide for the adventurers guild (page 2)

Players. Play is designed for a table of five players but is easily adjusted to as few as three to as many as seven players. Tables smaller or larger than this might provide a suboptimal play experience and aren‚Äôt recommended

Adventurers Guild suggests parties of 3 to 7 players (not sure if that includes DM) but if it does thats a scale of 2 to 6 for the party itself.

now, before the page flipping starts, yes there are plenty of examples of scenarios designed for 4 players, and basic DnD redbox was designed for 4 players and a DM. this is one of those arguments that is not an argument because there is no actual perfectly right answer.

bottom line: we all have our preferred play style and game rules, I dont see the harm in the game being able to be flexible enough to accommodate them especially when the ruleset it is based on does this already. of course, me not seeing harm does nothing to calm the programmer quivering in fear in the corner....

oh, and if Solasta does go online multiplayer so it can be used as an online DnD platform like NWN (but better), then being able to adapt will make it much more useful to those of us with larger groups. My group was regularly 6 players but sometimes expanded for 8 or dropped to 4.

Well, look at the in game situations we've seen.

Coming out of Caer Lem, I learned to love the Left-ten-ant. She is a trooper, and a healer to boot.

I wouldn't mind a larger party.

The deal is, whoever writes the game has to account for more people when they plan the encounters.

That would be the problem.

I'm fine with a limit of 4 for Crown of the Magister...or maybe it's more accurate to say that I just don't have a preference on this issue one way or the other.

However, I'd love to see user generated campaigns eventually have the option to set their own limits, so that we can pull in old DnD source materials.

Okay, what I really mean is that I want to create and play the original Dragonlance story campaigns in this game.

I would be able to chose between 1 to 6 adv. at creation and no game over if a character dies (except if only 1.)
+ a feature to recruite companion in the DM pls ! :p

Concerning the balance, yup it was made for 4 but with difficulty level that we can modificate it would'nt be an issue to increase the difficulty without touching already made encounter while party is 5 or 6 char "if we want clic on options.. and adjust by ourselves.." :)
However I understand that cutsscene were made for 4 so.. might be an issue if less than that.. :/

I would like the option to run 4-6 characters in a party.  If you add more characters, the number of monsters would have to go up.

If we had the option for 4-6 characters in a party, I am sure certain members of the module creator community would work out how to throw enough stuff at us to keep combat interesting. ūüėā
