I don't know about you guys, but in my d&d campaigns I usually have 5-6 players, it should not be capped to 4 in my opinion.

If you agree sign up for a bigger party !!

I pref 4 max.

6  is too versatile and therefore less challenge and replayability, imo.

Increasing  party size would be nice to have feature.

I would like to try party of 5 with following members:

Melee - Fighter or Paladin

Healer - Cleric

Spell caster - Wizard or Sorcerer

Sneak master - Thief

Pathfinder - Ranger

If they created balanced encounters for a party of 4 it would be a nightmare to re-balance everything for larger parties. I would imagine they would have to redesign core elements of the game to auto balance encounters and mini boss fights for larger parties.

That's exactly it. Generally the party needs a Tank, Support, Rogue and Wizard. The 5th and 6th chars would be the icing on the cake, an extra damage dealer, Bard, Ranger whatever.

I agree though, it's probably to late for them to rebalance things for bigger parties, or not, I don't know nothing about programming.

It would be nice to have x6 parties, but I think that's the sort of thing modders can probably easily do in the not too distant future.

I'd rather the devs concentrate on getting the x4 party right.

RTwP is better with 5-6.

Turn based with 4.

There's a little more chaos allowed with RTwP due to its nature, but with TB the encounters are more carefully balanced. It's a lot easier to do this with 4, not to mention it allows for smaller maps.

6 is too many for turn based?

-> Take Temple of Elemental Evil for example. It was turn based with party of 5 + 3(?) NPC mercenaries. And it was a fantastic experience.

Balance?

-> This game literally allows you to make a character with 18 in every ability scores so... hmmmmm

4 are an interesting party with weaknesses and where every character counts. You have to make some choices and sacrifices when picking your chars.

6 are a warband with no holes, way too much buffs, and usually at least 1 character is baggage carrier that could be sleeping in every encounter and that would not even make a difference. Turn based combat is slower since 6 characters require at least 50% more enemies that also play 1 at a time.

I would support moving to 5 with the fith member not being obligatory (you want it you can take it, you prefer 4 people, you can take 4)

Why ? Because 4 is nice but you have to many limitation :

- you need at least 1 wizard for AOE and identification

- you need at least 1 priest for healing (and maybe tanking)

- you need at least one melee damage dealer (warrior, paladin, melee rogue, melee ranger)

- you need at least one character with good DEX and the standard thief toolset (thief tool, Acrobatics. Sleight of Hand. Stealth)

that means 2 spot are wizard and priest and one as a melee DPS. That limit your real choice to

- which melee DPS

- which 4th character

A fifth characters would make things easier without being overpowered

-> This game literally allows you to make a character with 18 in every ability scores so... hmmmmm

How many times did you need to roll for that ? 2 times 18 and 1 time 17 (and other at 12 to 10) is my best roll and I needed a looot of try

I definitely prefer a party of six. But I also agree that for a small developer like TA, they may not have the resources to add in major options into the game. May be it could be something they can add in as a DLC at a later stage. Or else hopefully a mod will become available to increase the party size.

With only 6 classes to pick from a party of 4 is fine. The idea they might be able to change it so late with all the re balancing that would entail is bizarre.

You do not need a cleric though that is partly as the game is a bit too easy. You can make do with a bit of Paladin and Ranger and Green Mage healing and the potions they can make & you can buy. You do not need a rogue but having someone with thieves' tools proficiency from low life background & good Dex is helpful. Could be a Ranger or high Dex Fighter Wizard or even Cleric.
You do not need a DPS melee or a tank but one or both are helpful. You probably want everyone to be able to melee or have a plan to get out of melee as enemies will surprise and surround you plenty.

I would say you do want some ranged characters as that makes everything much easier. I have not tried pure, or mainly, melee but I think it would be very challenging.
