Paladin aura not constantly affecting adjacent ally [1.0.18]

My ally adjacent to a paladin does not always benefit from the Aura of Protection.

Set of images showing character position and aura effects in the initiative bar. (minor monster and NPC spoilers)

  • Tae (wearing a golden crown) is a paladin.
  • Emorjhen is a fighter ally.
  • Look for the aura symbol in character portrait at the bottom left and in the initiative bar.

In the first image, the ally is adjacent to the paladin. I think at this point, the paladin has just moved up to the ally. The aura is not applying to the ally. Note how the symbol is missing from the initiative bar, and a recently rolled saving throw by the ally did not apply it.

Later in the fight, the aura benefit is being shared. If the paladin becomes out of range, the aura effect only resumes on the ally's turn when the ally is or moves in range.

Also, what counts for preventing the aura is extremely unclear. Images two and three show how the aura doesn't apply even when the ally looks to be nearby (within 10') without any obviously blocking terrain. Both a knight's move away and 10' in a straight line in this case lose the aura on the ally. Image four shows the aura applying correctly when and while the ally returns to be adjacent to the paladin.

I can confirm that Paladin auras do not have the range of 10 feet that they should. A character two squares away from the Paladin gains no aura protections, which is within the 10-foot range.

I also noticed that the aura of a paladin wearing an item that increases Charisma by +2 applied the non-enhanced Charisma modifier to saves instead of the enhanced modifier.

+1 - Radius appears to be treated as 5 feet.
