[Outdated] Data Corruption - What to do if you're stuck in Infinite Loading Screens

Hello there folks!

Are you having issues with loading screens? As in you sat there for more than 10 minutes, had time to get a coffee, thought about your life and mused about the meaning the universe? If that's the case, we potentially have a solution for you. Read on!

Solution #1: Uninstall any mods you may have installed for Solasta

  • Modding is great, and we all love it - but hacking the code to mod the game can always lead to significant instabilities.

Solution #2: Verify your Game Files Integrity on Steam

  • Sometimes, Steam doesn't download the patch properly but still pretends that the download is finished (Steam with those Nat 20 Deception rolls). Because of that, your game is effectively corrupted and you'll end up running into an infinite loading screen at some point - or even just when launching the game.
  • Verifying your Game Files Integrity forces Steam to re-check the game folder, and download the missing files when it realizes it made a woopsie.
  • To verify your Game Files Integrity, simply:
    • Make sure you quit the game before doing anything
    • Open your Steam Library
    • Right click on SOLASTA Crown of the Magister
    • Click on "Properties..." (at the bottom)
    • On the top of the Properties window, select "Local Files" (3rd tab)
    • Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files..." (4th option)
    • Done! Now you just have to wait for Steam to verify / download the missing files

Solution #3: Use another save files (only do that if Verifying Game Files Integrity didn't fix your issue)

  • Sometimes, you did something during your run that the game didn't like - but the game doesn't crash. Those small error messages (hidden from the player) can range from harmless issues to "errrr chief, you just broke the game". Since the game doesn't crash outright, you can keep on playing - but as DMs like to say "you'll eventually run into the consequences of your actions" (even if it's not your fault in this instance, you couldn't have known). Meaning you'll eventually run into a crash, or an infinite loading screen. If that's the problem, verifying game files won't help.
  • Often what happens is that you'll save AFTER you already did something to break the game, so loading that particular save won't work (you'll always run into the same infinite loading screen)
  • The solution is to load an older save - unless you disabled them, the game should auto-save fairly frequently. You can simply try to load the previous save and see if you still run into the same problem. If so, load a save that's even older - rinse and repeat until you finally find a save that's not affected by the infinite loading screen.

Mine takes about 8 minutes to start. That's ok cause my desktop is not the fastest. I know it won't play Baldur's gate 3 but it runs divinity original sin2 quite well and one of the helpful people here said that if it runs DOS2 it will probably run Solasta. I'm so glad it does. Once I 've made the initial load to play ( about a minute or so) it actually loads much faster (about 30 seconds) if I want to reload a save.

I just thought I would include my system specs for those who are having long loading times.

To those who are experiencing long initial loading times compare these specs to your own system

( probably most everyone's is faster that mine(( 8 minutes initial load)) lol. if yours is faster, just be patient.

I was fine until I tried to go to the tower of magic.

I got stuck in the infinite loading screen. I finally gave up and started a new game.

Hopefully that will work.

I started a new game after the latest patch and was fine until I tried to leave the tower of magic. I suspect I might have broken something there by explorintg further in before following the light to the locked door in the tower, but I'm not sure.

I have completed (twice) Verification of all local files, uninstalling STEAM and SOLASTA,and any save logs and games. SSD was cleaned and WIN 10 registry cleaned. Re-install STEAM restart. Re-install SOLASTA. Verify files. All good. Start the game launcher and ...you got it the same message of "Data Corruption" check file integrity etc., go to our webpage etc. I have as stated completed this entire journey TWICE. I don see how even by cleaning the SSD and the registry that there are corrupted files on my end?...But if anyone has a final solution, then I would love to hear it thanks!

Hey Gang.. Went to do a 4th playthrough. This time with the January patch update. It's not playable again due to lockups.

Verified files - Graphics driver is the same. This was a problem with the original version/update, but had almost completely disappeared in the version previous to January.

It's far worse than even the original issue as it's every time the screen goes to/from inventory, cut scenes, and stores.

I have encountered the file corruption loading screen after freeing the baron from the dungeon.   Checked file integrity, all good there.  Tried loading a couple saves farther back but same message.   It's looking like I'll have to restart game......but its ok cuz the whole time i was playing i was thinking about the other characters i wanted to run like the ranger or spell blade!

EDIT: I did go further back in my saves(around the moon gate where you find the woman) and i was able to load game.   Not sure if ill be able to continue playing without issue happening again but will try.

I had the same issue it was entering the hidden room. Every thing before the cut scen, all saves loaded.

everything after loading the save results in “file corruption“ messag.

Ran into the infinite loading screen when going to a cut scene after talking with the Ceannard when getting close to any townsfolk.  I tried save games backwards and finally got past that point after going back to the trader camp.  Seems a bit odd for a save file corruption issue since there were multiple cut scenes in between.

Rolling right along now.

So I was playing the game after the new spring patch and having a lot of fun. I had just finished the Tower of Magic, including how to get that pesky chest using Misty Step and yes it is possible in the spring patch thankfully. On the way back to town I was crafting a Leather Armor of something and the only other weird thing was getting caught on the way back to town by a veteran attacker. Literally just before reaching Caer Cyflen the message that the armor was successfully crafted went off and then I land in town and can't move, can't do anything except pause and access the save and load menu, that's it. So I reload the game and get the data corruption error, check game file verification. Steam says that all files are validated. So I load back in to the game and I can load and get into the veteran battle and even just after winning the veteran battle, so my guess is that crafting the armor while en route to town caused a glitch that corrupted my game. ....... I just tried loading from three earlier saves... two going back quite a ways and always the same thing. Getting right in to town after completing the Tower of Magic and getting the crown is completely corrupted no matter which save I use, yet steam says all of my save games and files are validated.

FIXED::::::: For anyone else that runs into this issue, open your map and choose the arrow inside the in to fast travel to the inn. It sets off the cut scene just a few steps past the bridge where you enter the city, which I guess it what is really bugged and after the cut scene plays through, you can move as normal again.

Hmm, well, had a long session and should've made more manual saves. Anyway, got a loading error, last manual save and all 5 autosaves are broken. It must have happened between meeting Mardracht and the stopover at the Tirmarian Ruins. Funny thing is, that when I get the loading error message, I still can do a lot of things, every shortcut except of scrolling seems to work. I can open inventory, map, beasts and so on.
