Memory leak

After completing "Explore the ruined tower" quest, in particular - after returning to the city, frame rate and responsiveness dropped pretty hard. I opened task manager and saw that Solasta was using over 6GB RAM. Creating a memory dump took a couple of minutes, after which Solasta was taking almost 10GB RAM.

Not sure if it'll be useful, but here is that memory dump: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ibZAb4OAFDjuZBvvtoclxHUo3aZkJb6S/view?usp=sharing

This was my second playthrough, with game version 2.8.0. I think I had it twice during my first playthrough (not at the same place), at version 2.6.0, but just restarted the game without paying much attention.

System info: Windows 7 64 bit, Intel Core i5-4570, 16GB DDR3 RAM, NVidia GeForce GTX 1070.

Yes there is indeed a memory leak as when I pass things to other characters in inventory sometimes they do not appear or they appear and then the next time I look they are gone.No they are not on other characters and no I did not drop them on the ground.

It slows my GPU to 90 to 100% after a few hour of play and going back to town to sell. Have to log out and come back in to clear it.

Wasn't like this before spring patch

I was about to post about the stuttering that happens - this sounds sort of like the problem.

Cutscenes play OK; combat plays OK. Everything else (regular travel; inventory; journal; etc.) stutters, freezing regularly for up to 2 seconds each time. I have a low amount of memory, so a memory problem would force lots of disc caching, which would indeed cause these symptoms.

I'm not sure if this is related to a corrupted save file (PTSD from another game studio's auto save and quick save files corrupting) or if it is related to more things being unlocked or more data on characters.

I am running an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor, 16GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER. Solasta is installed on an NVmE m.2 SSD.

When playing my level 7 party, response is incredibly slow except for combat and cut scenes. Menus lock up, the party glitches and the screen locks up as I scroll across the play area. Casting identify on an item can take 30 seconds. This issue is present from the moment I load in, I started noticing it getting worse around level 5, and now the game is barely playable. I have continued from both quick and auto-saves throughout my playthrough.

Using a brand new party of level 1 characters, everything runs smoothly. I left the game idle for an hour, ran up multiple background applications and still Solasta responded perfectly. I will only use manual saves as I progress to test further.

I did some more checking. Definitely a memory hog. I switched everything on graphics to the lowest setting. After  couple of hours and in town or the first place you quest to its the same problem.

At log in screen GPU is at 73% Memory is 1,078 - 1,096 once in game at either town GPU jumps to 100% and memory is over 5,097 up to around 45%

That is insane guys you have a major memory leak. Pleas fix.

Hi all,

I have received a saved game by email from A.J., but the saved game uses a Feat mod which we do not have, so we cannot load the save properly. And I prefer to reproduce / fix the bug on the vanilla version of the game.

Can anyone send us a saved game (without any Mods) showing the issue? Mail at contact@tactical-adventures.com

Cheers,

M

Done

Hi all,

Thanks for sending this! So we have reproduced some of the spikes. This could be linked to excessive data refresh operations, possibly with paladin auras. We are looking into it.

Cheers,

That would make sense! My save that plays up has a Paladin, whilst the one that works fine does not.

Apologies if you're already on it devs, but I'd look into cleric auras as well. 've been tinkering with moving a couple of different parties whole and in various group combinations, and it seems to affect clerics of battle as well - presumably paladins have more auras for the engine to track!

My group has a cleric of battle and a paladin - no wonder I am having problems.

I don't know if it helps, but my group also 'teleports' all over the place - during travel characters randomly appear in various squares around the line of travel.

[edit]

Sent the save file. Play is extremely choppy with three auras at once (paladin of Tirmar at 7th level has two auras; cleric of battle at 7th level has one).

I don't think it is linked to paladins aura. I experienced lag while my party (paladin+cleric) is level 5, and tested a party with lvl 6 paladin and cleric in a dungeon made without any trouble...The cause might be the major gates. I'm going to run the scenario without using them.

This could make sense, I have both a Paladin and Battle Cleric, and my performance troubles roughly correlated to when both characters achieved auras.

However, the performance issue became noticeable after I went through my first Major Gate.  Could be a coincidence, but something to consider.

Another theory is when I identify a magic item (post Major Gate and Auras), the performance hit is insane... like a 9 second pause before the item is identified.  Perhaps identifying a magic item is compounding an existing issue, but worth noting.

All possibilities.  Thanks for looking into this!

Love the game, but I am experience all sorts of choppiness and I believe it is related to the paladin aura of protection. At the very least this contributes to the problem. When I walk around without my paladin travel is smoother (still stutters though). When I walk around with my paladin stuttering is just ridiculous. Game was running smoothly with no issues prior to this and now pretty much unplayable due to stuttering. Occurs when walking around every couple seconds or so lasting about 1-2 seconds each time. Cut scenes and combat seem ok. Stuttering even occurs when just scrolling around travel terrain available.

Hope this gets fixed soon. Thanks for working on this and putting together such a great game!

the first group i created was with a warrior, cleric, ranger and wizard and i am not having lag spikes all time. But i had some problems and created a new group with a paldin, cleric, rogue and a wizard and after a few lvls, idk if its cause the paladin aura, my game started to have constant lags and freezes. =\
