I have engaged everything, started fights left and right. JUST made lvl 5, and all that is left is the interior of Bone Keep. I have already fought the 2 groups of guards in the courtyard, and the undead on the left and right flanks. Sadly, Talbot wouldn't fight me and my efforts to start a fight failed. I have trekked back and forth several times between the 3 destination points and Caer Cyflen. I now need 7397 XP, to get to lvl 6. Looks like another 1/2 dz trips back and forth.
If I remember correct final fight with final boss will give you 1350 exp. I don’t know how much exp you will get if fight against inner guards, so to reach level 6 you probably have to travel from castle to the town and back a lot.
3 round trips Bone Keep to Caer Cyflen, and I have it down to needing 4400. So averaging off those 3, around 1k each round trip. Will do 2 more round trips, then enter the Keep. Should only need around 2500 +/- a little and hope to have that by/from the Aksha (or whatever that vampires name is) encounter. (If after 2 more trips I still need more than 2700, I'll do a 3rd and then enter the Keep.)
geebus...3 more rnd trips and still need almost 2900 XP. Looks like 1 more round trip back to Caer Cyflen and Bone Keep, then enter Bone Keep needing somewhere between 2k and 2500XP for lvl 6.
That is dedication to keeping the roads in the Principality safe!!
There was/is a thread on leveling up too fast, I think that particular concern can be well laid to rest.
Thanks for the updates, I made a few treasure runs back and forth but did not get close to 6th level.
(Playthroughs on hold until the vendors in town are fixed, all that money needs spending)

I have run close to a dz groups thru to finish, never got past lvl 5. Started this round with no intention of not reaching 6. 4 or 5 times between Caer Lem and Caer Cyflen, another 4 or 5 between the Library and Caer Cyflen; now 6 so far between Bone Keep and Caer Cyflen with 1 more to go. (Got delayed because of some updates to the comp)
To be honest, you have some grinding to do but again, killing every single quest instead of completing them will get you there faster. You can fight the lonely guy from the first place you go. Then you can fight Talbut and his wolfes, the ghost dwarf, and everything else in this area. Aksha (and ghouls) will give you 1650 exp and the last guy will give you 1850 exp (AND if you talk him to give you the gem you won't have access to his library). It helps a lot. I grinded until I was almost level 7. Note that I found questing much more interesting than hack and slashing.

nope, just the book
For the EA, random encounters is what has gotten me to level 5 and 6 in my playthroughs. Any run I do includes a Ranger now for that reason.
Does Ranger help to find more encounters?
