Either time is flowing way too fast in the game, or spells aren't lasting long enough. My ranger cast Jump on my fighter so he could jump over to grab a chest in the Tower of Magic, and by the time I had clicked the chest, clicked loot all, and clicked close, the spell had already worn off, stranding my fighter on a platform he can now no longer ever return from.

If it's the area I'm thinking of, there should be a pillar you can push to just walk back once you're on the platform.
