[idea] For next Solasta project, should we kindly suggest to WotC to give TA full 5e license?

June 10, 2021, Tactical Adventures (TA) shared on Twitter that their new studio (called Talyon) will be working on a new project in the world of Solasta, which we can of course presume will again use D&D 5e rules.

Someone, in the RPG community I follow, suggested maybe Wizards of the Coast (WotC) should give TA the full 5e license ...

My idea is that supporters (community here and Discord) could write friendly emails to WotC suggesting it or there could be a friendly/polite petition

BUT it would be best to know if TA would like that : I mean after doing all their homebrew stuff for Solasta 1.0, maybe they do not need or request the full rules license (?).  I do not want to know individual theories or prognostics about this, but rather what TA thinks about this, before players support the idea to WotC.

Timing : it is really not urgent or something to rush.  Maybe a strategic timing will appear soon.

(Nb : the hypothetical petition and emails would be friendly, cool, and not angsty or self-entitled. This is not a petition for any rights or claims.  This is a game. D&D is a game. It must stay cool, which will also have a better impact on WotC.)

Larian would likely sue Wizards if they decided to grant Tactical Adventures (TA) a full -- or even a partial -- D&D 5e license. TA is smart to stick with the SRD and stay within the licensing guidelines to avoid attracting unwanted attention from two 800 pound gorillas.

That is a theory, with little to no foundation.  If (that is a big if) your guesswork about Larian's position is in any way correct, WotC will simply respond no to a new request from TA and supporters.  No need to pre-imagine drama/law suit.

Good luck with your petition. While I would like to see more official D&D 5e content, specifically new classes and feats, in "Solasta" I am not even remotely confident that it will happen.

Well said.  Fair enough.

On my side, I will not do anything unless TA hints as to whether or not they would like a broader license for their new content.

On the JoCat stream the Community Manager alluded to the fact that Tactical Adventures had been in significant conversations with WOTC negotiating use of the property but couldn't nail it down.

IIRC, it was an issue on the price.

My guess is that Wizards wanted too large of a cut for it to be profitable for Tactical Adventures.
