I am in love with this game. And i think it has potential to go beyond the SRD and make some improvements on the basic rules...

For instance: the "preferred enemy" rules is a broken game mechanic, if you pick a choice that is not represented in the game you lose an important factor, even when you pick "right" it coul very well be usefull only in the early, mid or late game...

I know this is not a failure of the game but of D&D and the SRD... but you have the oportunity to improve... Maybe replace the "preferred enemy" with a bonus based on how much knowledge you accumulate about some enemies" or make a NATURE / SURVIVAL / PERCEPTION check before attack to get the bonus and set the DC of this test to the rarity of the enemy...

It could be simpler though... Maybe give the ability to retrain "preferred enemy" after some encounter with the new enemy and spending some time (like crafting)...

This last mechanic could be applied to other characters and mechanics, retrain spells, combat styles, etc...

Tasha’s gives a fairly clever way out for preferred enemy. While they probably cannot literally use the alternate class feature described there, they probably could make something in a subclass that nets the same effect.
