Casting Hunter's Mark using a second level spell slot (or higher) increases its duration. Short resting while concentrating on Hunter's Mark shouldn't break concentration but I'm pretty sure it does right now.

Just gonna post this here as well: RAW Hunter's Mark doesn't apply to spell attacks. In Solasta, a Greenmage with Scorching Ray can deal tons of damage over two turns using a first and a second level spell slot (3 attacks that deal 3d6 each instead of 2d6). Casting Scorching Ray at 3rd level makes it even worse/better (depends on how you look at it).
