Human characters

Humans in (unmodded) Solasta aren't very strong, so what are some creative or efficient ways you get around this?

Me, I like to play my humans as Shadow Tamer Rangers with a solid background for any skills I feel I lack in the party. Rangers have a solid set of skills, including both Perception and Stealth, and Shadow Tamers lets us get around the lack of darkvision. Combined with the option to start with 16 Dex, 16 Con and 14 Wis this makes for a solid character that makes up for most of the advantages another racial option might have as Shadow Tamers.

Typos happen. More so on the phone.

Race has nothing to do with being a good spell caster.

The player is either good at or not.

The only real advantage I see for the High Elf is the extra cantrip.

They have +1 Int, so does the human.

Admittedly, in regards to racial strengths, I find half-elf and sylvan elf are easily the best ones. The human's thing is they get +6 to stats total compared to other races whom mostly get +3, with the half-elf getting +4. So for point buy builds, the extra stats can be helpful. Though typically with builds I find you dump 2 of INT, WIS, and CHA, and then focus on the physical stats. Which does mean that usually, 2 of those +6 points are waste. But stat-tight builds can be helped by the human's bonus stats.

For cleric, I've found that a sylvan elf DEX cleric does pretty well, but for a regular STR cleric human works if you want a 16 STR and 16 WIS. Half-orc probably comes out better in melee but you have to go with a 14 WIS instead of a 16.

That said, Sylvan elves get 3 free skills (Perception, Survival, and Athletics), Half-elves get 2 free skills and an extra language in addition to common+elven, Sylvan elves get 4 languages. Humans also lack darkvision which can really be annoying in certain circumstances.

Human probably works best with an Einar battle cleric, since that build needs a lot of stats to work. Starting with 16/12/14/9/16/10 works decently well. Other races will miss either the 16 STR or 16 WIS, and half-elf's CHA bonus doesn't really help here. Only other optimal Einar battle cleric build I thought of is a wood elf with a stat loadout: 12/16/14/8/16/8, though that one will need a rapier/shield or shortsword/shield to be workable in melee, since their STR is too low to use STR weapons. Still, it's an interesting build.

Though a human STR ranger seems interesting. But I can't help but wonder if Half-Orc wouldn't just be better. Less stats but you don't need a 16 WIS for a ranger.

I do admit, I typically find sylvan elf with lowlife better for a ranger than a human. Human misses out on a lot of useful skills, better movement rate, and the stats on a Sylvan elf synnergize really well with a ranger, especially an archer.

Just thinking out loud on the stat rolls with point buy:

Human:12/16/16/10/14/9
Sylvan Elf: 12/16/14/8/16/8

You could swap the 16 CON to 16 WIS on the human while the elf can't, but that's about the only notable advantage the human gets.

Humans typically work best if you have a lot of attributes you need to fill. A melee cleric could fit given you need STR, DEX (for AC in medium armor), CON, and WIS all at once. Well, unless you go Sylvan Elf for a DEX melee cleric at any rate. Most of the classes only need one mental stat, though.

Frankly, I never use a human for one simple reason. The character generation menu has humans as god-awful UGLY.

Humans are so bad, they are only for bored players for their 10th game.
