Goodberry and rations

In the tabletop, each berry produced by the Goodberry spell restores 1 HP and provides enough nourishment for 1 day. The flavor text for the spell in game says nothing about it acting as a ration or providing nourishment. Is this a bug or a design decision? If it's a design decision, I'd argue against it. The strength of Goodberry is, in part, its ability to provide rations for the cost of a 1st level spell slot.

Another point I would like to add: Using a goodberry in combat did not cost me anything, I was able to eat/feed as many goodberrys as I wanted in a single turn, even so consuming/giving one should require an action. (Also the button labels for eat/feed goodberry are swapped)

If it is of any interest - when you cast goodberry and then travel overland, it increases the amount of rations you have by the same amount - and the goodberries do not disappear after 24 hours - essentially, it is infinite overland rations.
