Gems not ingredients but have crafting icon?

Some gems specifically have the Ingredient tag, but others (such as amethyst) don't, although they still have the blue crafting icon.  Is there any use or trick to these non-Ingredient gems?

You can see what can be crafted from various ingredients on the Fandom site :
https://solastacrownofthemagister.fandom.com/wiki/Ingredients

If a gem is not on that list, it cannot be used in crafting.

The amethyst is not an ingredient and is not supposed to have a blue crafting icon.  If it does have the blue crafting icon, read the description well, as it is most probably not a normal amethyst (or it is a new bug).

Hey, thanks. This website is really going to come in handy for me. You have a lot of great replies to people. Thanks for that too. I've been carrying around my amethyst since I got my first one thinking they are going to be used for something. I've been wondering what I can make with them. I have 4 current. I'll look it up.

You're right, it doesn't look like it's used for anything but just like the winter wolf pelt they both have that little blue hammer and anvil that says " This item can be used as a component for certain spells. "

That is weird.  I wonder if a new recipe (Lost Valley) or new spell uses it or if it is a bug.

Maybe for future recipes?

Thanks all for the answers.  After checking these answers, I misspoke.  The blue icon on non-ingredient gems is definitely the spell component icon, not related to Ingredients.  Ingredients have the "Ingredient" tag but no icon, spell components have the blue Component icon and no Ingredient tag.  Some have both.

Near as I can tell, the blue Component icon relates to spells with a material component that is not covered by the normal spell focus.  Spells with a material component have the M in the description, but spells with a specific material component not covered by a focus have an M+, with a description about what the component is (eg Identify with a Pearl, Heroes Feast with any gem).  You would think that you need these components to cast the spell, but I've just experimented and was able to cast them anyway.  So if your party can't cast any spell requiring a particular component anyway, you can sell it (unless it's also an Ingredient you want to keep).  It appears you can sell the others as well because they don't seem to be needed, but I'll probably keep them in the inventory for role playing purposes if nothing else
