Game unresponsive before and after an encounter

Before my character first turn the game becomes unresponsive for about 6 minutes, after that time the game functions normally until the end of battle. After the battle is won, the game again becomes unresponsive for about another 6 minutes. I've installed the latest update with no change. I'm currently playing the game from Steam.
