Can we discuss the arbitrary (extremely low) number of 50 for the allowed number of saved games.

That's INSANELY low. I spent more time deleting old saved games than actually playing the game. Because you'd have to pause, and then go read all the titles of your saved games and decide which one you wanted to delete. And this process would completely pull you out of the game every single time.

Why have such an extremely low number for allowed saved games?  Even 5,000 would be arbitrary and completely unneccessary, so why have a limit at all?

Yeah, this would be a good idea.

I had to clear up saves on my first playthrough which of course means that with a second playthrough I first need to manually backup my current playthrough so I can then clear the necessary space for a new playthrough, but this is inconvenient if I want to refer back to my older playthroughs for any reason.

  1. Auto- and quicksaves don't count against that limit, and their amounts are adjustable in the settings.
  2. Don't you reuse saves between campaigns?
  3. You can also recycle saves within the same playthrough. There's little point of keeping a save where your characters are 5 levels below their current state (unless you are tracking game's bugs, I suppose).

I kinda agree that the limit of 50 saves looks a bit arbitrary, and possibly not completely justified. However, personally I never came close to it. Unless you keep several concurrent playthroughs, and need their entire history... well, in that case that might be a problem.

I noticed that a Youtuber I follow, who kept many saves to make his videos, reached the limit and was annoyed.

I agree though there are ways to manage.  As a normal player, even as a completionist, I do not need 50 save slots.

You can go into your hard drive and delete all of your saves at once, if you need to. The path is listed when you try to overwrite a save.

And speaking of that, why keep so many saves around? When you make a new manual save point you can just overwrite one of your older saves that you don't need anymore. What's the reason to have more than 2 or 3 saves?
