Game Crashes to Black Screen First Time Loading a New Scene or Map

Every time the game needs to load a new scene/map for the first time in a specific play through it crashes to a black screen with a buzzing sound coming out of my speakers. (It also likes to crash for Council cutscenes, though that seems more intermittent.) I have dual monitors and both go black even though the game is only on one screen. Mouse and keyboard are completely unresponsive and I have to hard boot my machine to recover.

It will also crash on occaision when exiting the character screen. (The spell screen seems to be the biggest culprit.)

For added fun, every 2-3 times it crashes it's forgotten all my settings (for Graphics, GUI, gameplay, etc) and I have to change them again.

I have tried updating my drivers, reducing my graphics settings, disabling AA and VSync, turning off Steam Cloud Saves and even removing the Citrix Virtual Display driver (as that had been noted on a different forum as a cause for crashes in Unity games.)

Running 1.1.11. Occurs with or without mods.

Windows 10 v.21H1

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770

I know my computer is a little long in the tooth (I was actually planning on upgrading this year, but the chip shortage killed that plan) but I used this same exact setup for EA and didn't have this problem.Right now I'm just getting by Quick Saving constantly so I don't lose too much ground when the next inevitable crash happens.

ETA: I've also gone through the steps in the Infinite Loading thread, just in case it was related.

Hi!

I see that you are using the version 21H1 of Windows 10. This version of Win10 is known for being making games very unstable, no matter where you bought and installed said games.

Updating your version of Windows 10 might help reducing the number of crashes you are experiencing.

You can also send us a savefile (without mods) by email where you know a crash will occur, so we can take a look

Thanks for the response.

I just checked for Windows updates and it says everything is up-to-date. 21H2 isn't due out until sometime in October. I'll see what I can do about getting a mod-less save file with a impending crash. The problem is it will crash on a map load, but then once I reboot my PC and relaunch Solasta it will load the map fine on the next try. So I'm not sure if a save file would actually be useful to reproduce it (or if it will, actually reproduce the crash more than once.) I may try completely removing the game and doing a fresh install when I have time this weekend and see if it makes a difference.

Okay!

A few other players have told us that their game can sometimes crash when they are on the overworld and going into a map, but we have not been able to reproduce that on our end, and have not received a save file where it happens unfortunately.

Let me know if reinstalling the game helped!

Unfortunately reinstalling did not resolve.

Interestingly I don't seem to have the problem while playing through custom dungeons, though. (Or at least I haven't had a single crash while playing through Silverquick's Slaver series, which I'm about 12 hours in to.)

I will say starting a new game I didn't experience a crash until returning to Caer Lem to do the quest board quests.

Hey!

You said that you were still experiencing a crash when interacting with the Quest Boards, but do you also have the game crashing when interacting with other elements in the game now?

Sorry, interacting with the Quest Board didn't cause a crash, but rather the game crashed on loading the Caer Lem map when I returned to do the quests I received from the quest board. I should have made that more clear.

I've been mostly playing user-generated dungeons lately, rather than the main campaign, and haven't experienced a single crash during those.

ETA: Spoke too soon. Had my first crash during a custom dungeon after dozens of hours. I did a quick load while in the middle of a combat it was clear I was going to lose and the game crashed when trying to load back into the map.

I have also been getting a crash while heading to Caer Lem from the map. I just left the start city and was able to survive a surprise encounter. However, during the load screen of Caer Lem, it freezes. I have graphics at the LOW setting. Here are my Mac details, which seem like they should be able to handle the game:
