Full Official License for 5e?

I have watched the development of this game with sincere interest.  I feel it shows the most promise as a true adaptation of the 5e rule set in digital format.  What I wouldn't give to have your team put in charge of developing BG 3....

But I've always been curious, what would it take for your team to get the full license for 5e material, instead of just what is provided by the SRD?  Is it just a matter of money, or are there are limitations?

Hey there!

Thanks for your kind words!

So the license question is, as you can guess, a very tricky one, and these discussions are usually bound by secrecy!

What I can say though, is that our current license agreement allows us to use the ruleset that we love, while at the same time developing our own Solasta universe. So we are very happy with this situation!

Cheers,

The joys of NDAs, reading and writing those is part of my regular job unfortunately.  It at least seems like it was examined at some point so I'm happy, though if it is just a question of money I'd sincerely request another kickstarter for it.  You all are building the best platform by a mile!

Honestly I'm glad for the SRD. Don't get me wrong, I love the lore in DnD as it is, but there are enough games that stick to it.

SRD allows you to come up with your own ideas, places, people, gods ect ect.

It will be interesting to see what TA puts in their adventure, because as much as I love going to the Underdark (and I'm sure we will again in BG3) I would like to visit some new places and fight new monsters.

Its just like the Star Trek series. They can use the 5e rules as long as the final product is a certain % different. :)

Just thought I'd resurrect this subject after the BG 3 EA and Solasta EA, and say that if TA wanted to start another Kickstarter to get a full license (at least for classes, races, and spells) I would be a big supporter.

but I like the solasta universe so far!

Maybe if solasta and a potential solasta 2 are succesfull they can branch a third game into the Forgotten Realms or so. But I would focus on my own universe first.

Oh no I love the Solastsa setting.  I'm saying just for incorporating races, classes, and spells that aren't tied to any particular element of Faerun.  Essentially bringing the full might of 5e mechanics while telling the story in their own world.

I like this idea from IsaacSpringsong.

I would love to have the Solasta setting with full on 5e mechanics. I could even make a party duplicating some of my characters from the tabletop game.

While not an original Kickstarter backer (I just discovered this a few days ago and I am loving it) I would absolutely back a new Kickstarter to get a full license.

Count me in too. I didn't know about the initial Kickstarter, but I'd back one to expand what the developers have to work with.

I'm afraid it'd take much more money than you guys can provide, and even if you could, those money would've been better spent on something else. Even if WotC wanted to sell that license to TA, there definitely would've been certain limitations which Solasta don't have now as an independent project.

Do you have sources to back that claim up?  I am not aware of how much a 'full' 5e license costs.

Right? How does he know what we can provide, even with it being bolded? Or maybe at least one of us is a WotC or Hasbro employee (I'm not, just saying).

After the most recent update on BG 3, it's pretty clear Solasta is our greatest hope for an actual 5e video game.

Sooooo.....how about that new kickstarter for the full 5e license for races and classes?  Then also layer on the custom ones you've added for even more awesome value.

I could be wrong but I highly doubt WotC would provide the full license to what would be essentially competing games. There may even be contract agreements with BG3.

I’d love to see Solasta have the freedom to use all the feats and class archetypes but I don’t have too much hope for that. I’m just hoping TA has a bunch of home brew feats in the works that won’t break the game. :)
