Frightened (Haunted Soul Sorcerer) seems quirky sometimes

EDIT : I will have to test it some more.  I modified the title of this thread and will update.

An Orc (rogue) that I successfully Frighten did not move away and also just kill the source instead.
I bit frustrating I must say.

The other debuffs seem to work.

3 Orcs wiped my party ...  They were lucky on their rolls and when I finally Frightened one, he attacked the source (Sorcerer) and killed her.  I was able, at level 2, to kill two of the creatures we are supposed to avoid and kill more later at level 4.  But 3 Orcs was my death: mucho HP, Lighting Bolts, etc.

EDIT : I should say the fear effect (move away) did sometimes work on other creatures.  The "Grimblade" Orc ("ice blade rogue": I forget his exact class) attacked the source....

On a side note, I wonder at what level I will be able to kill 3 Orcs.

Not at level 4 anyhow (though my party is pretty tough).  Those Lighting Bolts, that ignore everything are uber death: ignore all cover, walls, fog (my fog spell cuts my LOS but enemy spells ignore LOS)...

I agree the game was a bit easy before... but now Orcs are probably more dangerous than Tolkien Orcs.

Anyhow, it was a bug report about one of the effects that does not work :P

EDIT: came back with a vengeance at level 5.  Attacking from their rear, I made sure to kill the Shaman fast.  There were 5 orcs when I came back and a flying snake.  Was still a rough fight.  My Stinking Cloud did... nothing.

You are confusing the Frightened condition with the Fear spell.

No, I am literally reading the description of the actual effect in game when the creature failed its save against the Haunted Soul ability.

It says the creature is "Unable to approach the source of the fear".

BUT I of course see your point : Fear makes them run away ; Frighten should stop them from moving closer.
It is just that I presumed they would not attack the source.

I have to specify a big nuance : it often worked (I think some moved away even) against other creatures.

The "Grimblade" Orc (rogue, not chieftain nor shaman) though attacked the source, which may be is as designed as he was already in melee when Frightened.  It felt odd to be attacked, hence my bug report.

Again, a Deep Spider was Frightened by the Haunted Soul feature : on the very turn that it is affected (with a red icon to confirm), it moved directly towards my sorcerer into melee.  As a spider, it could easily have moved towards my party instead (my sorcerer was flying and away from the party).  Though it is not a Fear effect, the Haunted Soul effect reads Frightened and that the creature cannot move towards the source.
