I don't know if this is a bug, and oversight or a limitation of the game. While flying you cannot cross some areas as they do not have a grid overlay. As an example in one of the new locations from the winter update there is a small stream/brook. The bridge is broken here and you can jump it, but when you are flying you cannot cross this area. This also happened to me in the Tower of the Magic.

This is a limitation in the engine right now. In the earlier versions of the game Soraks at the end of Caer Lem could shove you into endless pit, forcing reload, so they removed possibility to do it, but it also affected Fly.
