Fighters and Extra attack at level 5

On the Fextralife Fighter build guide, they say this:

You can activate Action Surge to gain an additional Main Action. You can then use another Attack Action to trigger one more Extra Attack. In total, you can attack enemies four times in a single turn with your Melee Weapon.

Is this correct?  You can get 2 Action Surges for a total of 4 attacks in one round?  I thought Action Surge could only be used once, so you get three attacks max.

You get 1 Action Surge, which allows you to take another action.

At level 5, fighters can make 2 attacks with a single action, so 2 actions results in 4 attacks.

Action Surge gives you another Action, not an additional attack. That means that when you have the Extra Attack ability, using Action Surge does (and is intended to) give a total of 4 attacks that turn. You can also do anything else you want with the Action you get from using it, including disengaging, drinking a potion etc.

Ok thank you, that makes the fairly poor Fighter class some redeeming qualities then.

Oh, i didn’t know that.  Most encounters don’t last that many rounds, so that immediate burst potential is quite nice to have.

Still not as good as Rangers who can get an extra (single attack) most combat rounds with a little planning, particularly if hasted, using Horde Breaker or Paladins with Divine smite (even rationed to 1/encounter) along with passive boosts from their oath.

yep, half of the complaints/confusion about the game stems from a lack of knowledge about the 5e game

Indeed, though the Fighter is still a bit on the losing side of Solasta's homebrew. Figthers are pretty dependent on their archetype for good abilities and Solasta's Fighter archetypes aren't great. Sadly no Battlemasters to be found or an equivalent based around spamming abilities on Short Rest.

Not sure what you're expecting.  5e rules do NOT play like Warcraft.  No class in 5e rules whether it be the free and open Basic Rules or official D&D can "spam" abilities.  You're not going to be smashing keys like they owe you money in any TTRPG, if that's what you mean.  I'm not sure what you are experiencing but Fighters really start dishing out damage at 5th level.  If you're wanting a damage dealer, go with a 2H weapon and take the 2H subclass.  You'll wreck enemies with 2 attacks per turn.

OK, I am 7th lvl, and I see nothing to indicate Action Surge anywhere.

Fighter gets 2 atk/rnd, but I see nothing anywhere to indicate Action Surge.

What am I missing?????

Paladins also get an extra attack and use 2HW effectively, plus they have nice extras like divine smite. Absolutely not a single reason to use a Figther... Useless class in Solasta.

For sure I agree, however there are some fringe cases in where Fighters have a case.   If you want a tank, a mountaineer can get to 23AC by level 4.   True, not every map has a flat side to get the +2 AC, but I'd say over 75% do.   Also, sure a paladin can use a shield, but then they cannnot cast spells (afaik), so I tend to use 2HW with them almost exclusively.  Thus, a fighter (epsc the mountaineer) tends to have much better AC over the Paladin.

One of the most powerful group builds Ive found is a mountaineer with 3 rogues.   The mountaineer keeps dodging, the rogues stay out of sight opposite where the battle is (in other words, the enemy group is facing away from them, all attacking the mountaineer).  Each rogue is doing massive damage WITH advantage every single time.   You can clean out major battles with no damage taken.. on Cataclysm.

Well, I really don't understand it, but I'm getting 3 attacks per round,

Are you using two weapons, or something that applies a Haste type effect to you?

With two weapons (on a level 5+ character of an appropriate class), you would get two attacks with the main weapon and one as a minor action with the off-hand weapon.

It's a year later and the game still had this bug? Our fighter is level 8 now and has lost his ability to make 2 attacks with his action. He had it and then it's just gone
