After meeting with the council and setting out to find evidence of creatures, I ran into a random encounter with bandits and a thug. I level'd up, and accidentally picked the wrong roguish archetype. I loaded the auto-save at the end of the fight only to find that I could no longer use the campfire to long rest. I'm effectively stuck in the random encounter map. I tried reloading an auto-save before the fight, and then I attempted to save/load normally in the encounter. This did not fix the issue. It seems as though I cannot rest at a campfire if I loaded from a random encounter.
Same problem: Happened on (3) separate random encounters. After being surprised, battle began, after battle ended, campfire would not allow to continue sleep. Stuck in the encounter map, NO way to exit, even loading beginning or end of encounters (auto-save) works, It has the same result.
Me, too! Ghouls ambushed me and after killing them there is no way out.
If you are on a daytime map, you do not use the campfire, there will be a green square somewhere that allows you to exit normally.
This was very confusing for me as well. There should be some sort of explanation of this in game or a clearer indicator of what to do.
Sometimes there even are several green squares. Are they intended to be escape routes which we can use even without finishing the fight? I don't think they impact which way we'll go, destination is always the same.
Thank you, Thank you, I was getting a little frustrated with having to reload and trying to get to destination without encounters. I will definitely look for "exits" next time.

However, (if I remember right) I did have a couple encounters that were at night (you were surprised) and green icon was not on campfire. I thought it was buggy 'cause after looting a bag it would reappear after going to the next one. Hahaha had piles of arrows. Could have just been a glitch on my end. I will continue to check this out.

I've had a couple random encounters that were at "night" time, but were not part of a rest period. What makes these so tricky is that for almost all of these maps there is a "camp fire," but it's not always a "campfire," if you know what I mean. So at first I was confused by those as well. Now that I know to look for them, I've found that for every random encounter there is either a clickable campfire or at least one green highlighted exit area.
