Encounter started on entering a place

On the world map, I had a notice of a surprise encounter right as I entered the lost temple area. The notification screen stayed open even as the lost temple area opened. The only thing I could do was acknowledge the surprise message. The game hung in a Loading state for a while, and then closed with an error message.
