It seems like my characters knew more about the crown and the gem that they were trying to retrieve at the end of EA but I don't remember learning anything about the crown or that I am going for the necromancy gem. It is just a gem that the crown wants.

I'm so glad you mentioned this, because I have the same reaction. All of a sudden there was this entire dialogue about God's and ordered to kill the master, and the gem of necromancy, and I had no clue where it came from it was a complete surprise. Hopefully there will be more exposition about it when the full game is released.
