Dice rolls are pre-determined

To be clear, I'm not looking to debate if "save scum" is good or bad, right or wrong, should be included or not.  I just want to confirm that it is happening (or not) and if it is intentional (or a bug).  Dev response would  be great.

I'm aware of what Guidance does Steve.  My point was that even casting Guidance would result in an altered D20 roll.  So would just straight up save scumming.

No, no anti-save scumming exists.

I'm a fan of discouraging save scumming as its hard not to want to optimize around it. That said, I wouldn't mind it being part of a difficulty option.

Hi all,

We needed random generation determinism for some reasons inside the game engine. But we have recently implemented a new "Game" setting to disable this for gameplay and have truly random rolls when reloading. Not sure when it will be delivered in a build, but it should come at some point.

Once it is a setting, it becomes your choice!

Cheers,

Thanks for confirming dice rolls are currently not random after re-load.  Making it an option in game settings seems like a great solution.  Thanks!

I noticed that they were predetermined in the tutorials, but once in Caer Lem, I was able to save scum to my hearts desire.

For those against saving and reloading due to a failed roll -- when a PC dies due to a bad roll, do you start the game over or reload and try again? At what point does it become 'ok' to reload a game. Seems like a personal choice to me -- if you want to spend 10 minutes trying to open a chest, so be it.

If you cast Guidance after the re-load you might be able to open the lock but that doesn't necessarily mean you got a different roll, you are just adding a bonus you didn't add the first time.  The dice roll may still be the same.  Every single time I have re-loaded to re-try a roll, the die roll has been exactly the same every time.

And that´s good the way it is, because it denies save-spamming until you got the result you want !

I really like that if you fail say a lockpick you either have to try something else with same character or use another one.Funny thing is my fighter always unlocks chests after my "thief" rogue fails.

I haven't run into any "pre-determined" die rolls anywhere past the tutorial yet. I've gone through save-scumming my way through various dialogues to get successes on things, opening locks/chests, etc. No problems whatsoever. The only time I've ever seen fixed rolls was in the tutorial, where it's just teaching you various things. Your rogue/sneaky character will always roll a 20 attacking the loanshark, for instance, and the big wolf on the bridge will always roll a 20 to one-shot you if you don't disengage and toss the rock down.

Honestly, the default should be switched.

no, they are not predetermined. The seed doesnt change once a game gets started, unless you set your game to establish a new seed on load of a saved game
