DICE ROLLS

I've changed my mind again. After a couple of days, these dice rolls are screwed up beyond hope. I have gotten tired of suffering through constant, multiple 1s.

It could have been a good game.

Every single round, over 10 rolls are made. Which means you will easily see 1 almost every second turn.

1 in 20.  It is D&D, and many other games actually.

Well this game has more problems than that, You go into a place, like the abandoned fortress and once you start in, you cannot exit. I suppose you have to reach a certain point before the game will let you exit. That's not cool. It allows for no errors.

I'm in a spot where I need to rest up so I can level up, but I can't rest because I am short of food, so I;;m just stuck. They haven;t thought everything out about this thing.

That's another flaw in it...you can't really calculate how much food to travel on a journey...not realistically.

If I only saw one, I wouldn't bitch. This thing is insane. I have seen back to back 1s, more than once.

I can confirm that once I started pushing up my AC on my Paladin (currently 19-21) enemies that attack me, even the lowest minions in the encounter hit as often as I was on AC 16. The number of 20 rolls in every encounter is suspiciously high. In the same party the same type of character rolls a much wider range or results against my AC 14 Rogue to the point that she gets hit far less often... from the same mobs. That combined with her uncanny dodge means that my rogue can out-tank my Paladin.

I haven't checked if 'True random' is set on my settings yet but this is definitely a noticeable issue on default settings. Frequently have 2-3 characters roll a 20 against my character in the same round or the same creature roll a 20 two rounds in a row.

Haven't seen the issue with my rolls being frequently critical misses though but that might be because my weapon is still basic on my Paladin.

I've done fairly extensive testing because multiple people have complained about the dice rolls, as always seems to happen for any video game with any kind of random element.  Some games do fudge either in the rolls or the displayed percentages.  I think xcom shows a lower hit % than your actual chance, which reduces player complaints for missing multiple 90%shots.  In my testing both in normal gameplay and with stacked ac so that enemies require 20's to hit, dice results do not support any form of systematic bias.  Either towards rolling 20's or 1's or hitting, or whatever other pattern you might complain about. It is clear from hours of meticulously recording every roll in game that the in game results are at least as fair as the cheap plastic dice i use for dnd irl, and likely better.  With real dice I managed to go an entire 4 hour game session once with no roll higher than a 5 on a d20.  Sometimes the dice hate you.  The only thing I hit that night was a zombie, and that by the skin of my teeth.  Nothing special wrong with the dice in question, I've used it with normal results on other days, just a 4 hour long string of improbably bad luck.  If you are losing fights to bad dice rolls, you are letting your enemies roll too many dice at too good of odds.  About the worst thing I can think swinging a fight luck wise is a critical hit with inflict wounds or similar that needed a 20 to hit, and that shouldn't be fatal unless you are playing with enemy damage above 100%.  For reference from my tracking dice rolls, in my normal play, the party rolls about 4-5x as many dice as enemies.  I have advantage more often, surprise more often, and do everything I can to deny opportunities to enemies with control and positioning.  It took a long time to get enough rolls from enemies in normal gameplay to say they aren't cheating with confidence, because optomal gameplay is to minimize how many times enemies even get to try to hit you.

I will say this.

I am beginning to appreciate it a little bit.

I just did the one where you get the crown, against that flying asshole...who is immune to Magic Missles no less!!!!..

and got down to just the Mage, everybody else dead, and took him with a final bow shot, I was so relieved  I wasn't mad.

In that moment I appreciated a hard fought battle.

So what are you saying here?

Does he have to use a spell slot to avoid it?

Yes, he is using his Reaction to cast Shield, which makes the caster immune to Magic Missiles.  Ixi’s (clever) strategy is to induce the flying Sorak to cast Shield every round by pinging it with 1 Magic Missle each round, while targeting the rest at Soraks who aren’t immune.  This causes the flying Sorak to burn through his spells, while not wasting the rest of the Magic Missiles in the cast & using them to damage other targets.

A clever strategy, but I usually prefer to have all my ranged characters target the flying Sorak, which has much the same effect, but eliminates it as a threat sooner.  Obviously there are multiple viable approaches here.

Well, I'm going to be forced to backtrack on my original premise about the rolls.

Started a new group of characters, and haven't seen anything like it was at first.

Yes, I still see 1s and a lot of missed shots on every encounter, but nothing like what I saw at first,

I can't explain it.

OK, so what you're saying is,,,,, it's not that he's immune to them, just that he casts a shield, like my Paladin and Wizard?

Yes.
