Are we nearly there yet?

Normally on Steam in 8 hours but I'll check at noon (in France in 3 hours). I don't know the console.

The Warlock comes with the following class features:

Saving Throw Proficiencies: Wisdom; Charisma

Warlock Armor Proficiencies: Light Armor

Warlock Weapon Proficiencies: Simple Weapons

Warlock Skills (Choose 2): Arcana; Deception; History; Intimidation; Investigation; Nature; Religion

Pact of Magic: Can cast spells from the Warlock Spells list

Otherworldly Patrons: Determines the Patron with whom you have signed a pact

It comes with the following equipment:

Light crossbow (or Club, Dagger, Handaxe, Javelin, Mace, Quarterstaff, Shortbow, or Spear)

Crossbow Bolt x20

Component Pouch (or Orb or Wand)

Scholar's Pack or Dungeoneer's Pack

Warlock Armor

Club (or Dagger, Handaxe, Javelin, Light Crossbow Mace, Quarterstaff, Shortbow, or Spear)

Dagger x2

Question:

So it looks like the Sellsword background will be necessary to give a Bladelock decent armor. The Pact of the Blade HAS to include martial weapon proficiency, right? Sorry if that's a dumb question. I'm relatively new, and I don't see how the class could use swords otherwise.

Probably not, but I'll try to answer you.

So any idea if pact of the blade allows you to use swords without lawkeeper background?

Edit 1-- Just upgraded my Warlock to lvl 3, and YES, you do get proficiency with martial weapons, even if you don't have the lawkeeper background. Right now, he has a sellsword background, which also gives him medium armor. It may be possible for the pact of the blade to also give medium armor proficiency, but I don't know. With the invocations available, it appears that you can have an effective Bladelock.

Edit 2-- Oath of Tirmar Paladin, Pact of the Blade Warlock, Swift Blade Ranger, and Battle Domain Cleric is a really satisfying, fun combination at level three. The College of Hope Bard may be a fun substitute for the Battle Cleric. If you like any of the Bard classes, let me know!

Pact of the Blade gives Martial weapon proficiency but no armour proficiency. You could do a rapier Dex build if you didn't want to be a sellsword. You can easily test this stuff by levelling up characters in the character creator.

Note that a couple of iconic warlock spells are missing - I don't think they are in the SRD. Loss of Armour of Agthys hurts the bladelock, but there are several other ways to get temp hp. Maladict is a straight up replacement for Hex (without the choose an ability score to nerf which is so irritating in BG3). The "Hadar" spells aren't in, but they always were style over substance.

Oh, and expanded spell lists are in, for those who haven't discovered it yet.

That's exactly how I found out. :)

The Sellsword Pact of the Blade Warlock with a rapier is pretty formiddable, and it still feels like the 5E Hexblade because of the additions like maladict, thirsting blade, the magical damage, and the enemy life drain. Solid magic blaster and dexterity-based fighter. And no glass cannons in my party. The Sellsword addition to my character's background makes him feel like Todd McFarlane's Spawn :)
