Last ditch effort to save the variant human^^ 

Storytime: I once had a player that was new to DnD and reaaally wanted to play a druid, but also really wanted to have a cat companion, so DO NOT FEAR I said. Pick Druid. Play Variant Human. Get Magic Initiate -> Find Familiar.

The possibility to get a feat at lvl 1 just opens up so many character possibilities. "But you can just pick one at lvl 4" Yes, but thats 3 lvls (so even with a fast DM probably at least 3 long sessions) before you can play what you WANT to play :3
