As an option in the future, if the Dev Team is interested in mining a large dataset to determine "popular" choices for expansion, D&D Beyond has tens of thousands of D&D players and would provide answers like this:

Most popular D&D races (2020) - again, care of Geek Native:

  1. Human
  2. Half-Elf
  3. Dragonborn
  4. Tiefling
  5. Half-Orc

Most popular D&D classes (2020) - again, care of Geek Native:

  1. Fighter
  2. Rogue
  3. Barbarian
  4. Wizard
  5. Paladin

i think those are a little biased 1] i think may folk test the water with a simple character [eg human fighter] i think the results would be better if they only looked at characters that are higher level or have been played with for a while.  2] demographics might be off since not everyone uses dndbeyond

Biased, as in a large data set, utilized by people that play D&D, which enables multiple characters to be created, and is accessible to anyone?

Opinions will vary, you might take that data set into "consideration" over only utilizing a poll on this forum to determine expansion classes/races.

I think the race results are quite telling and for the record, someone always shows up with fighter in my D&D groups :)
