Dark Vision Spell Does Not Work

2 years ago (edited)

Currently playing a game with a Island Halfling (Normal Vision) in the party. I used the Dark Vision spell on him, yet when attacking into Dim Light he's treated as if Dark Vision is not applied.
See the screenshot below for further clarification, note that he has the Dark Vision icon yet "disadvantage in Dim Light" still shows up on the attack roll.

Good to know.

TA Devs, you should also consider allowing Darkvision to give its target Superior Darkvision. For a 2nd level spell slot, I believe it's a fine trade.

I never thought after almost 5 years of playing 5e that I'd ever advocate for using the Darkvision spell. But here we are, lol.

And it seems like I'm mistaken. The RANGE of vision may be the issue here, as opposed to the spell itself; a closer enemy in Dim Light seems to be treated as expected while enemies further away are not.
Unless I'm mistaken, hasn't the range restriction for Dark Vision been eliminated in SOLASTA as a part of the overall Lighting change?

According to the wiki, that seems to be the case. It's likely that maybe they left the original range for the spell when it got coded and eliminated it for the races? Still I think the spell version needs an improvement.

Yeah, it could be an oversight on their part. Either way, I'm all for a buff to the spell regardless.
