Starting a battle when one char is on the wrong side of crawlspace makes it impossible for that char to join. Crawl is not possible during battle?
Bow before me! Or d'ont. I'm not very picky about these sort of things.

Probably because you don't have enough move to crawl and stand back up (takes half your movement). Since you can't end your turn willingly prone, that may prevent you from moving to the other side. Did you try using the Dash action and see if it was still blocking you?

I was able to crawl through using dash - but initially I also thought, ey, why can't I get in there ;-)
