  1. I have updated to the Spring Update - Hotfix 29/03/2021
  2. I have verified my files via Steam
  3. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling

Steps to reproduce:

  1. I created my characters (4 of them)
  2. Clicked "New Adventure"
  3. Selected my 4 characters
  4. Clicked "Start Game"
  5. Kept Default settings for Brightness and Contrast
  6. Clicked "Start Game"
  7. Waited for the loading screen to present the button labeled "Click or Press Any Key to Start" NOTE: My cursor isn't visible on the loading screen
  8. I have tried both clicking the button and pressing either the spacebar or the enter button.
  9. I end up on a screen that the bottom half is gray and the top half is blue and white, the white portion appears to be clouds. (Screenshot below)
  10. Once on this screen, the game never responds until I stop the game in the Steam client

I have also included my Player.log contents for additional findings.

Also, the game has run fine for me in previous releases. The above-mentioned issue started when I updated my game to the Spring Update.

The issue is linked to your media player trying to read the intro movie: WindowsVideoMedia error 0x887a0005 while reading G:/Apps/Steam/steamapps/common/Slasta_COTM/Solasta_Data/StreamingAssets/CotmIntroduction.mp4

Did you install new video codecs or did anything related to your video player on your PC since last time you played?

What you could try:

- Update your graphic card driver

- Make sure you are up to date with your windows update

- If it still doesn't work, put a small .mp4 file in that folder and rename it CotmIntroduction.mp4 (to replace the original one) and see if it works

I wasn't able to resolve the video issue, however...I did press "Esc" this time while on the above-mentioned screen and was able to move past the intro video. I guess that is a workaround for now.

I did a test with a small .mp4 but there was no change in outcome.

I didn't change my video codec.

I am up to date on Windows Updates.

Same issue here. Maybe something about my system info could help to find the problem.

UPD: it's a bug in Unity: https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/windows-7-windowsvideomedia-error-0xc00d36b4-error-is-thrown-when-loading-a-video-with-the-videoplayer

It's been fixed in 2021.2.X, devs might want to update it if it's not too much additional work.

It's planned to be fixed for 2019.4.X which devs are using now, but will take some time. In the meantime, it can be resolved with rolling back to 2019.4.15f1 or earlier, as the issue wasn't present until 2019.4.16. Unless that rollback would cause more issues, ofc.

I'm having this Issue in the kickstarter backer update.

I also don't recall having the issue previously and I've not changed codecs (so seems the Unity issue lingers).

Since the spring update I have had a black screen on the main startup page as well, but still see the menu banner (like it isn't loading some splash graphic), not a major issue (perhaps related).

Videos play fine manually too FYI.

Maybe some error catch to ignore the intro (or an option to disable intro video) so the game can progress could be a work around until unity gets it fixed correctly.

A simple fix seems to make it work happily is if you rename the video file (CotmIntroduction.mp4 ), it then just jumps to the text before the tutorial scene, without playing the introduction video (that can be done manually if need be).
