Since this is the Suggestions forum, my Druid would love if a successful Animal Friendship would make the charmed animal an NPC in the party (as other NPCs or even some of the non-fully controllable NPCs). Another successful Animal Friendship check is required daily or the animal turns hostile and attacks.

Unfortunately it's RAW behaviour. What they could do though is give you a chance every day to make a Persuasion check to improve the "out of charmed" relationship. Maybe after three successful checks beast would become neutral even if it was hostile before.
