Not a trick question - I have an item in inventory "200 GP". It didn't automatically go to my money, and it sells for 0 GP.

Click on the gold pile in your inventory and it collects to your gold as normal.

Click on the gold pile in your inventory and it collects to your gold as normal.
I am not sure clicking did it. I think I clicked many times with no success. However dropping it to ground and picking it up again worked for me.
